How do I get rid of my brown spots and what causes them?

Most brown spots are caused by sun damage. Other factors also can play a part in developing brown spots, such as stress, pregnancy, hormones, injury, etc. These discolorations appear due to an over production of melanin. Melanin is the component that gives our skin its color. The most common areas clients complain about are the face, sides of the neck, chest, and the hands. The first line of defense is to prevent damage by wearing a daily sunscreen of 45 or above. To improve the already existing brown spots, we offer several different forms of treatments. We have had great success with our IPL laser. This requires 4 to 6 treatments, 3 to 4 weeks apart. The laser will cause the spots to darken initially and then exfoliate in approximately 10 days. Each treatment will result in a noticeable lightening of the area. To prolong the effects, home care maintenance is a must!

We can remove them from the surface and suppress them in the lower levels of the skin. Therefore, at home maintenance is very important. By using a physician's level regimen, including skin lightener/hydroquinone, a gentle exfoliator, and a daily SPF 45 or above, you can keep them manageable. Medical microdermabrasion and chemical peels will also lighten pigmented spots. But, the IPL laser is a more effective treatment.
